Greetings friends in the Western Region! The last Mentor Training for our grant cycle is finally scheduled. Apply now!
The next Mentor Training with Cindy Farnham, Master Mentor, will be Saturday & Sunday, December 12th and 13th in Sacramento, CA. The training is from 8:30am-5pm at UC Davis-School of Medicine Education Bldg in the Medical Center, in Sacramento, CA.
Space is limited! We can only accept 25 Mentors per training. There is NO COST, just an obligation to join our Mentorship Program. This is the LAST training in this grant cycle (ending 9/30/10)
1.5 PS CEU’s available for the Mentor training (more for the ongoing Mentor relationship). Some pre-reading is required.
We are looking for qualified, certified, committed interpreters who have a deep interest in mentoring.
Qualifications for Mentors:
- Certified member of RID (or for Deaf interpreter applicants, ASL skill equivalent)
- Have passion and “heart”
- Ability to schedule time for ten mentoring session
- Ability to articulate the interpreting process*
- Familiar with adult learning theory*
* Information and resources on the interpreting process and adult learning theory will be shared at the WRIEC Mentoring Workshop.

Program Components
- Up to 10 sessions with matched Mentor/Mentee
- Pre/post mentorship skills assessments
- Stipend to mentors, other compensation and arrangement of funds are up to the mentee
- Log of activity to show development and progress
- Follow up survey and exit interview
- Ongoing support for mentees as desired (conference calls, blog)
