Shannon Nieman, ITP Graduate, Interpreter Coordinator
Following her high school graduation in 2000, Shannon moved from Roseville to Arcata, California for college. Her career path in Interpreting first started when she was hired by Humboldt Child Care Council and assigned to work with a Deaf client. She began the Interpreter Preparation Program at American River College in 2008 and earned her AA degree in Sign Language Studies: Interpreter Preparation in 2010.
While she pursued her degree at ARC, she provided instructional support for students receiving special education services in the San Juan and Roseville High School districts. She also served as a volunteer for NorCal Services for Deaf & Hard of Hearing. In 2011, she began working as a staff interpreter for NorCal in their Employment Development Department. Her two years working at NorCal was an amazing experience that gave her the opportunity to work in many different settings and to be involved with the Deaf community in Sacramento.
In September of 2013, Shannon got married and moved to Texas where her husband served in the United States Air Force. In July of 2015, she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where her husband is currently stationed. One of the things Shannon loves most about working for Eaton is being able to stay connected with the Deaf and interpreting communities in the Sacramento area not matter where the Air Force takes her.
