Jennifer Breitkreutz
Jennifer Breitkreutz, CI & CT
Jen was born and raised in Northern Nevada. She was first introduced to the world of deafness and sign language when she was in elementary school. She was fortunate to be in a class with two deaf students and a sign language interpreter during the second grade. Jen began learning sign language that same year, and her interest in the language and culture of Deaf people continued throughout junior high and high school.
After high school, Jen attended Western Oregon University. In 2002 she obtained her B.S. degree in ASL/English Interpretation and subsequently relocated to Sacramento. Jen began work as a freelance interpreter for Eaton Interpreting Services as well as other community-based interpreting agencies. She also worked as an interpreter for American River College. In 2004, Jen was awarded both her Certificate of Interpretation (CI) and Certificate of Transliteration (CT) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. From 2002-2004 she served as Member-at-Large for the Sacramento Valley Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (SaVRID).
For several years Jen enjoyed the numerous opportunities Sacramento offers for gaining interpreting experience in educational, business, social service, medical, mental health, and video relay settings. She also benefited from spending time as a mentor to students in the interpreter training program. In the summer of 2008, Jen married and re-located to Wisconsin. She continues to work as a free-lance interpreter, mainly in medical, social service and mental health settings. Jen is grateful for the opportunity to work with EIS as a coordinator both because of the quality of services EIS provides and because she is able to stay in touch with the Sacramento interpreting community.
