Denise Garrido Guerrero

Denise Garrido Guerrero, CI & CT, NAD IV

Denise was born in Madrid, Spain and raised most of her life in Europe. Growing up in several different countries such as England, Turkey, Germany, and Spain was a wonderful experience and one she deeply values!  In 1982 while attending Fresno State University, she started taking sign language classes.

Denise started working in the Deaf community as a volunteer relay operator at NorCal Center on Deafness during the mid 1980s. In addition to varied freelance interpreting assignments and working as an Interpreter Coordinator over the years, her focus has been on corporate and post secondary interpreting. She has held interpreter staff positions at Sprint California Relay, Massachusetts Relay, NorCal Center on Deafness, California State University, Sacramento, California Public Employees Retirement System, and American River College.

Denise holds her AA in Sign Language Studies and has her community college teaching credential from CSUS (master level classes). She plans to continue taking a handful of classes to complete her BA degree.

Denise currently divides her busy schedule between coordinating interpreters for EIS, interpreting in the community, and teaching in the Interpreter Training Program of American River College. Denise teaches interpreting in the post secondary education setting, deaf-blind interpreting, oral transmission and work experience.

In addition to her busy work schedule, Denise works as a volunteer mentor with new interpreters. It is her way of giving back to the community.  Denise has also given back to the community by doing work for the local RID chapter (SaVRID) in the past as both member-at-large and newsletter editor.
