Ellie Purvis Portrait

Ellie Purvis, CI & CT, Interpreter Coordinator

Ellie was born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula. A few years after high school, she moved to Seattle and entered the Deaf Studies program at Seattle Central Community College. She was fortunate to take ASL classes from Geoff Mathay and continue on to the Interpreter Training Program under the guidance of Lou Fant and Deb Peterson. She graduated in 2000 and then worked as an educational interpreter before moving to the Sacramento area.

Sacramento was a warm and welcoming community that took her under its proverbial wing. She was encouraged to get involved in the local RID chapter and was provided many opportunities to work with mentors. While preparing for the RID certification tests, she worked at American River College and freelanced for Eaton Interpreting Services. In 2003, she received her Certificate of Interpretation (CI) and Certificate of Transliteration (CT) from the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. She also held Member-at-Large and Vice President positions for the Sacramento Valley Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (SaVRID). In 2005, she began working behind the scenes as a scheduler for Eaton Interpreting Services until she moved to Portland, Oregon to start a family.

Ellie still lives in Portland where she spends most of her time with her two young kids while occasionally interpreting in the community. In 2011, she eagerly re-joined the Eaton team and is happy to be working with all the wonderful Sacramento interpreters, schedulers, and community.
